The Honeyboys may be excited for their upcoming appearance at Shabang in May, but April could make an even larger impact on their growth.
According to the most popular Cal-Poly-based band, made up of drummer Matt Sato, guitarist Reese Gardner, keyboardist Grady Gallagher, bassist Nick Reeves, and lead vocalist Ari Eisenberg, April will be a big month for releases.
2022 has already become the busiest year of their time together. A wide range of local shows saw the Honeyboys evolve from simply an internet band to a community favorite.
The members say that having a physical connection with their audience feels better than they could’ve imagined. For Gardner, the best part of that interaction is a crowd singing along. Fans will soon have new lyrics to belt alongside the band.
Per Eisenberg, “we plan on dropping our debut album in early April, and we’re hoping to release a single before that as well… we’re definitely planning on releasing a bunch of new music right before Shabang.”
The purpose of these releases is twofold, firstly changing the dynamic of their Shabang performance. Consulting with the band, Gardner determined that they “should write… two or three more new songs before Shabang just to kind of have some new variation in our set.” Those songs will not necessarily be a part of the new album.
But with other new tracks in the works, it became clear to Eisenberg and the other members that a long-term dream could come together.
“We’ve been working on this album since the band started pretty much, and it’s been the never-ending album. That’s what I like to call it. But it started off as just an EP. And then we’re like, you know what? Let’s do an album.”
Ten tracks will be featured on the album, to be called Come to the Show. Their second music video is also planned for the same time frame, promoting the single.
There’s a lot to look forward to for the Honeyboys, both for the members and fans. Just as 2021 vaulted them to a more widely acclaimed status, 2022 is shaping up for more exponential growth.
